How to Lose 70 Pounds

Losing weight is no easy task and trying to lose 70 pounds is even harder. It will take an unfettered dedication and a total change in lifestyle, but it can be done.

Instructions

    1

Think about what is wrong in your life. When I say wrong, I'm talking about everything that is keeping you overweight in your life. Before you would ever set out to change your body, you need to figure out why it looks the way it does. This means thinking about the way you eat, your exercise routine, your lifestyle, your habits, etc. You literally need to think about everything you do in your day-to-day life and decide if it is something you can give up for a while in order to lose your targeted weight. If it isn't, maybe losing 70 pounds is not something you will be able to do.

    2

Change your eating habits. If you are 70 pounds overweight, you are likely not eating correctly. Think about what mistakes you are making. Maybe you are eating the wrong foods. Do you want a lot of fried foods? Maybe you enjoy having dessert each night? Your old eating habits will have to go. If you really want to lose the weight, it's time to put down the drumstick and pick up a vegetable. That's just how it's going to have to be. It's not always what you eat that is hurting you by it self. It can also be that you are eating too much. Quantity and portion control are very important things to keep at moderate levels. Restaurants have become infamous for serving giant portions. Steaks are bigger than ever--double cut. You do not need that much food. A single serving of chicken should be a breast that is about the size of your palm. You do not need to eat half of a bird. Control your portions and you will control your weight.

    3

Exercise. Changing your eating habits will help you, but you can not lose the weight unless you are exercising. Losing weight is about simple math: you need to burn more calories than you take in. That is it. By changing your eating habits, you will now be consuming less calories, which is good. But you need to exercise more so that you are burning more and more calories at the same time.Think about your active life. Are you mostly sedentary? Or do you exercise already? Most people do not get enough exercise. Desk jobs force you to sit all day and we always have so much going on that it is hard. But you will have to find some time. Take a 30-minute walk in the mornings or a jog after work. Find some time (about 30 minutes a day) to get in some exercise and you will see the weight start to shed off of you.

    4

Don't let up with your body. The hardest part about losing weight is keeping it going. Losing the first 10 pounds is not that difficult. Once you start to diet and exercise a bit more, you'll drop those first ten in a three weeks just like that. But as your body gets used to your new eating and exercise schedule, it will adapt, making it harder to continue to lose weight. You will have to push yourself to go farther, eat better and lift more. This is the only way to keep your body working hard and continuing to burn more calories.

    5

Don't go cold turkey, reward yourself. It's nearly impossible to just stop eating your favorite foods all at once and it's not healthy either. Give yourself a break and have an ice cream cone if that's what you love. Give yourself one meal or one day per week where you can eat whatever you want--as long as you are sticking to your diet the rest of the days. Give yourself some credit when you are doing things right and reward yourself with something you said you wouldn't do anymore. But remember, it's just a reward--a one-time or every-now-and-then thing because of your success. Don't forget that and keep your eyes on the prize.
