How to lighten your hair using lemon juice

How to lighten your hair using lemon juice

If you want sun-kissed highlights without the expense of a salon visit or bleach damage, lemon juice and sunlight may be your answer. A spritz of lemon juice mixed with water and a day at the beach can lighten your hair subtly; for more intense lightening, repeat the process throughout the summer. Even if you don't live near the beach, you can get that surfer-girl (or boy) look in your own backyard. Don't forget to apply sunscreen first! Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    1

Slice two large lemons in half with a sharp knife.

    2

Squeeze the juice out of the lemons with your hands or lemon juicer of your choice. Remove any seeds from the juice.

    3

Pour the juice into a measuring cup, preferably a glass cup with a pour spout. You should have 1/4 cup of juice. If you don't, slice and juice more lemons until you reach 1/4 cup.

    4

Pour the juice into a spray bottle.

    5

Add 1/4 cup of water to the spray bottle. For more intense highlights, add less water.

    6

Spritz the juice mixture onto freshly washed and towel-dried hair, keeping it off your scalp. After applying the lemon juice, your hair should be wet but not dripping. Comb your hair to distribute the juice evenly.

    7

Slather on lots of sunscreen and lie in the sun for an hour or two. Repeat the process, as necessary, to achieve lighter highlights.
