People sometimes get an overgrowth of candida in their system due to an overuse of antibiotics and corticodsteroids. Poor diet and food allergies can also be culprits, as can harmful air pollutants and chemicals. Symptoms can include headaches, gastritis, pain, yeast infections and even autoimmune diseases such as multiple chemical sensitivities and chronic fatigue syndrome. This problem can be exclusively rectified through diet alone.

Foods Not To Eat

    Most commercial foods contain yeast and glutens, two substances you will temporarily need to remove from your diet. Candida will feed off both yeast and glutens because they have a high glycemic index. In turn, this yeast-like fungus will continue to proliferate and suppress your immune system. Foods that contain glutens include most breads, cereals, pastas, pastries, croutons, crackers, cookies, milk and even beer. It is important to check labels on foods before purchasing them. If you suffer from candida overgrowth, you will also need to ask waiters at restaurants about their ingredients, especially for salad oils and meats.

    Other foods to avoid include peanuts, mushrooms, wheat, barley, rye, condiments, additives and preservatives, chocolate and caffeine.

Foods You Can Eat

    Most people with a candida problem have two choices: They can eat other foods that don't have yeast or glutens, or use gluten-free substitutes. For example, you can eat a yam or potato as a meal instead of bread. But if you want to eat bread, you would need to eat spelt or another gluten-free alternative instead of multi-grain or wheat bread.

    In addition to potatoes and yams, there are many foods that you can eat, including meat, fish, brown rice and brown flour, beans, almonds, most nuts and seeds, vegetables and fruits. You will want to limit your fruit to one to two per day because of the sugar. There are also plenty of grains that are gluten free: Amaranth, buckwheat, quinoa, kamut, millet and basmati rice. The list goes on.

    If you like breads and pasta, there are plenty of substitutes. Rice pasta comes in all forms, and you can buy spelt bread. You can also buy gluten-free flour and make your own bread. For those who like snacks, there are plenty of gluten-free crackers and cookies. Some are made from almonds and pecans. Carob is often used as a chocolate in cookies and ice cream.

Foods That Destroy Yeast

    Probiotics are often recommended for candida problems. Yogurt has cultures. Adding this food to your diet can help you combat the candida yeast. It will boost the levels of flora in your digestive tract and large intestines. Other foods that act as antibiotics include garlic, Paul D' Arco tea, virgin coconut oil, tree tea oil, oregano and cayenne pepper. Try eating a few of them or sprinkle some of the oils on your salad.

    Enzymes also fight yeast. Instead of buying digested enzymes, eat a lot of fresh vegetables like lettuce, cucumber, carrots and radishes. All of these foods contain natural enzymes that your body can use to overcome candida overgrowth.
