Diet for Persons With Type O Blood

The earliest humans are said to have had Type O blood. Images of these folks, particularly the males, hunting dinner with clubs and other crude weapons are familiar to most of us. Their subsistence on a diet rich in wild game and edible plants is reflected in the diet recommended for persons with Type O blood. This is also one of the two most common types of blood, Type A being the other.

Type O Foods

    Type O dieters are encouraged to consume all kinds of organic meat, including lean beef, turkey, chicken, lamb and seafood. Azuki and pinto beans are other protein sources for Type O eaters. Eat a variety of vegetables, especially kale and collard greens, and all manner of fruit. Because this diet emphasizes meat, those following it are cautioned to balance their meat eating with sufficient amounts of fruits and vegetables. Too much meat (and not enough of everything else) can increase your cholesterol.

Type O Restrictions

    Avoid wheat products, eggs, dairy products, cabbage, Brussels sprouts and corn. The gluten in wheat is said to be one of the leading reasons those with Type O blood gain weight. Choose breads and pastas made from spelt instead of wheat---the gluten is more easily digested. Limit your intake of lentils, kidney beans, caffeine and alcohol. The last two raise adrenaline levels, which are naturally high in those with Type O blood.

Type O Meal Examples

    For breakfast, someone with Type O blood following the blood type diet may eat 2 slices of spelt toast, a small glass of vegetable juice, 1 banana and some green tea. For lunch, consider a small portion (6 ounces) of roast beef, a small spinach salad, an apple and a glass of water. Dinner may consist of a meat and vegetable stew, steamed broccoli, sweet potato, and mixed fruit like blueberries, kiwi and grapes. Again, water or herbal tea may accompany the meal.
